Words to Live and Do Business By
latest by The Why to Your ...
Moses was an exceedingly wise man. When he needed to lead a great nation, he went to the Ten Commandments. (Arguably, he had a little help there.) Most people would agree that the Ten Commandments are hard to beat, even sublime. Do you have the equivalent of the Ten Commandments at your company?
I am not Moses. (I’m not even Charlton Heston.) Still, I recognize that our company needs a standard to live by. That standard needs to be simple, memorable, and doable. And so I came up with the Nine Words. (I didn’t make it to ten, Moses had a better Editor.) We endeavor to live by the Nine Words in all we do here at Content Crooner. Because we want to be accountable, I now share them with you. Perhaps you will see what will become your list of {Insert Number Here} Words to guide your own operation.
The Nine Words are:
Clear
It all begins with being straightforward. You won’t do business with us until you understand what we offer.
Honest
Honesty makes for happy, long term relationships. We tell the truth about what we do and about what we don’t do. If we make a mistake, we say so. We are trustworthy.
Engaging
Being clear and honest is great but no one is going to hang around if we don’t keep it interesting. We are here to make connections, connections that stick.
Stable
Our stuff has to work. Enough said.
Useful
Just functioning correctly is not enough. We must offer services that are worth doing, services that you want us to do for you because they are actually beneficial.
Intuitive
If you need a training class or a big complicated manual just so you can use our service, we haven’t done very right by you. Our stuff has to make sense and make sense not just to us but to you.
Prompt
We got you all excited about our service. Understandably, you want it now. So we need to give it to you – now.
Courteous
While we are serving you, we need to be nice. Even if (and of course you would never do this) you are not being nice to us.
Helpful
You probably didn’t contact us because you are lonely and just want someone to talk to. You actually need something. We need to solve your problem, not just have a friendly chat.
Every day we see new ways to enable the Nine Words. It is amazing the things that one accepts as the normal course of business until they shine this kind of light on them. Doing things better often is no harder than the lesser way and it has far reaching positive impacts. As we live the Nine Words more and more they are becoming internalized. Now I can just say “Honest” to someone or “Courteous” and they immediately get what to do. So I hope this was clear, engaging, useful, and helpful because we want to have a long, fruitful, friendly relationship with you.
To your success,
