When Jeff first lost his job, he searched for a new job for over a year. When he finally decided to give up, he jumped on the Internet thinking he might be able to pick up a few dollars from a home business. He decided to try article writing even though he wasn’t a writer. After all, he had read that it didn’t take talent to learn to write articles. It was more about learning a few skills. A year later, Jeff is making a six figure income.

Christine wasn’t so lucky. She too lost her job as an engineer. Most of her time had been spent writing documentation for software. She thought that since she spent all of her time writing, maybe a career online as an article writer would be an easy fit. Christine learned the hard way that it takes more than just the ability to write.

What made the difference?

First, when Jeff jumped online, he realized that he didn’t know the first thing about writing articles, product research, or building a web site. So, Jeff decided to learn.

He did his homework and found a course that would teach him how to build basic web sites he could promote. Since he was using one of the many free web site hosts online, he didn’t need to spend any money. He just spent time finding products to promote and then developing article marketing campaigns to promote those products. Once he created a successful campaign, he started another. He chose topics he knew about and found the appropriate products to sell.

Christine jumped online and just started writing. After all, all she had to do was write 300 – 400 word articles. The problem was Christine didn’t have a web site. She wrote about too many different topics, mainly whatever interested her at the moment. A lack of focus, and not developing the necessary skills sabotaged her efforts. At the end of a year, she had plenty of published articles, but she wasn’t making any money.

Had Christine been serious about wanting to make money from article marketing, the first thing she needed to do was decide what she didn’t know about article marketing and then learn whatever skills she needed to get the job done.

She needed to choose topics she had an interest in, she knew something about, and that she wanted to write about. A little time spent doing her homework would have saved her a lot of time and effort.

The secret to successful article marketing is this: decide what you want to do and then stay focused doing it. Write good articles and submit them to as many places as possible. Be consistent, and you will make the sale.

To your success,
