Do you know what an IVR is? Oh, you do. If you have ever called a big company, you talked to one. It stands for Interactive Voice Response.

Interactive? Cool. Response? Sign me up. Except…that’s not our usual experience, is it? It usually means we have to put up with a series of not-so-intelligent questions before we are allowed to actually talk to a someone who can solve our problem.

I don’t know about you but I don’t call a company unless I have no choice. I really try to work things out myself, use their web site or, dare I say it, read the manual. So by the time I have steeled myself to dial, I really have a knotty problem that is going to require a real live human (and probably a pretty capable one too). So how do I dodge those IVRs so I don’t spend 15 minutes trying to get to a capable soul?
